At the Dallas Jewish Historical Society (DJHS) your privacy is very important to us, and we want to provide you with the following information so that you can better understand our practices when it comes to this increasingly crucial issue. This Privacy Policy applies to DJHS and governs consumer data collection and usage. For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, unless otherwise noted, all references to DJHS, “we,” “us” and “our” include the Dallas Jewish Historical Society and our websites www.djhs.org and www.dallasjewishstories.org. DJHS’s website is used to provide information about activities, events, fundraising activities and the history of the Jewish community of Greater Dallas.  By accessing and using our website, you agree that you have read and understand this Privacy Policy and you consent to the privacy practices (and any uses and disclosures of information about you) that are described in this Privacy Policy.

PRIVACY OF DATA

DJHS does not sell or trade our mailing, e-mail or donor lists with external organizations.  We will, on occasion, fulfill e-mail requests on behalf of other Jewish organizations in the Greater Dallas area.  We agree to such communications to promote events or programs that we believe are beneficial to the Jewish community as a whole.

All requests are reviewed individually by DJHS. In no case is any personal information exchanged directly with staff members of other organizations.  DJHS will either contact you directly or via a contractor that has agreed not to disclose your information to others.  Personal information such as address, e‑mail address, demographics, giving levels and histories are never divulged to other Jewish organizations during this process.

COLLECTION OF PERSONAL INFORMATION

Through your involvement with DJHS, you may be asked to fill out or update information such as your name, address, e-mail address, telephone and cell phone numbers, fax number, credit card information or details about your Jewish community interests. This is most often done through donations and reservations that are made on our website, written out on invitation response cards, or taken over the telephone in conversation with a DJHS staff member.

We also may collect other identifying information from or about you in connection with your use of our website.  For example, we may collect and store the content of, and data regarding, any correspondence you may have with us or our representatives, regardless of the subject matter or the mode of communication by which such correspondence is made.  As with many other websites, the Internet servers used to operate our website may collect certain information pertaining to you and the software, equipment and communications method that you use to access the Internet and our website.  This information can include: IP address, browser type, domain names, access times and referring website addresses.  This information is used for the operation of our services, to maintain quality of our services, and to provide general statistics regarding use of our website.

DJHS encourages you to review the privacy statements of websites you choose to link to from our website so that you can understand how those websites collect, use and share your information.  DJHS is not responsible for the privacy statements or other content on websites outside of our website.

HOW DJHS USES YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION

DJHS uses the information you provide us solely to provide services at your request; to inform you about services, programs, events and other communal information that you may find interesting or useful; and to confirm donations, reservations or other interactions that you undertake within the context of your involvement with DJHS. We may disclose the information you provide us only to those of our contractors and their employees that need your information to process it on our behalf, to provide services to you that you have requested or to contact you on our behalf.  All such third parties are prohibited from using your personal information except to provide these services to DJHS and they are contractually required to maintain the privacy and security of your information.

DJHS will disclose your personal information, without notice, only if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on DJHS or our website; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of DJHS; or, (c) act under necessary circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of our website or the public.

ARCHIVED ITEMS, DOCUMENTS AND PHOTOGRAPHS

DJHS collects and preserves items and collections of interviews, documents, photographs and ephemera in our achive, given freely to us and having had assigned, without reservation, to Dallas Jewish Historical Society, all legal title, copyright, literary property rights and all other rights, including transcription and publication rights (except as specifically noted on the Certificate of Gift.)  This may mean display and or publication of said materials in written or digitally-posted formats, as well as use of such materials in research, publication or exhibition (subject to any specific conditions noted in the original Certificate of Gift.)  Additionally, photos or videos taken on behalf of DJHS may be used in printed, digital or displayed materials. If you have copyright information about an item you’ve seen on our website or emails, or if you are the copyright owner and believe our website has not properly attributed your work to you or has used it without permission, we want to hear from you. Please email Archivist@djhs.org with your contact information and a link to the relevant content.

UPDATING YOUR INFORMATION

At any point in time, you can change your information and your preferences.  Should you desire to be removed from any form of contact or a particular form of contact, whether that be all mail, a certain type of mail, phone calls, or e-mails, please contact us via e-mail at info@djhs.org or via phone at 214-239-7120 and let us know your preferences.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

From time to time, we may change this Privacy Policy and our privacy practices because of changes in relevant and applicable legal or regulatory requirements, in our business practices, in our attempts to better serve your needs and in response to user feedback.  When we do so, we will post a revised Privacy Policy on our website and a new effective date below.  Any such change will be effective immediately upon posting on our website.  DJHS encourages you to periodically review this Privacy Policy to be informed of any such changes and how DJHS is protecting and using your information.
