78 girls then I was president of when I was 17 and that has changed agreed to have you got to pick with chapters you wanted to be in and everything I got my whole life for about four years was tied up in to bbyo went to conventions all over and a lot of friends some Thai still have got to travel to all the cities around and up to the International Convention what brought you to dallas in the first place my daddy daddy had been in dallas in 39 he and a friend and he really liked it and we traveled around quite a bit before I
hit Dallas and John where were you born I was born in Omaha Nebraska and my brother was born there then I lived in Sioux City out of joosten topeka kansas where my little sister was born was because they're a canal and I always felt very sorry for her because she was little when we moved to Dallas and she grew up this basically the same school and the same friends all of her life and I had all of these friends from in different cities and why was that business father was in what kind of business he was a Salesman he's so exciting he's sold television sets
he built juvenile furniture when we were in Tulsa we lived in that we lived in three gir that we moved to tell so we lived in Fort Smith Arkansas Monroe Louisiana for like 12 weeks withdrew to floods decided that was not the place to be and then moved to North Little Rock Arkansas and then from North Little Rock we moved to Dallas he really had hacked it around and then we move once after I got buried we went to Florida license gender son called it your abuses not Miami it's sure a me and then we came back here and I've been here ever since and
you and your parents were made here too once yes in dallas right okay can you remember any incidents or anything from your childhood or your grandparents my father's family we're living in Omaha my grandfather was a side of business ready was a cantor and so I had family in Omaha and des moines iowa and we used to go up there all the time for the holidays really hip Midwestern roots I'm definitely a Midwestern ER because my current husband is from New Jersey yeah it still brags about it and he's been here almost as long as I and he brags about how do work is still
home by him and you asked me where I was born I was born during Omaha but Dallas is my home because I've been here for over 50 years you do a lot of interesting things and I know you're a teacher but you're also chef and so tell us about some of these things well I do a kosher catering and I cook it to Thurid Israel for kid issues now now I'm only doing it usually once a month for birthday and anniversary celebrations and because I'm helping this week for the break fast that'll be Saturday and I just cater a little bit five years ago I
was in a automobile accident and my neck was broken and so I'm a little bit limited in what I can do and get around thank God for my congregation I've had two surgeries but in the hospital twice in the last five years both of them I should have died and my congregation let me I thought wouldn't let anything have to me and list all those people say why are you doing that and so he still got something in mind for me I'm just not sure what it is I teach ESL at Richland and volunteer teach at vickery meadows I'm teaching reading to people who do
not read in English alphabet now if you speak Spanish you can look at English and figure out some of it but if you're from China or Japan or an Arabic country or Israel or boot on which a lot of my students are now they're writing is looks like scribble I think I'm doing Sesame Street teaching the ABCs to these adults what do you do as a beginning to a group of people who don't speak ill of the most of my students speak a little bit of english and the first things they all ESL students learn two things one is food and the other is money
those things they learn and then you just go on from there you start with hello my name is rose san what's your name and then nice to meet you and introducing people and then you go on from there depending on the level that you teach it's very rewarding I like it better than teaching number children can you tell us some of the most you know give us an example of what you mean by rewording most ESL students second language students are afraid to talk because their english is not really good they don't their biggest problem is they don't put things together the same way that
we do in english but English is very hardened every rules got 15 exception stupid so once they learn and I tell them you're smarter than most people are because you've learned a second language and we can understand you and all those people out there who grew up speaking English don't speak the most perfect English either and i have written letters for four-year colleges for some of my students because they've gotten that far along and a lot of those want to do better at work i had one young lady who was very upset because the people she worked with all spoke spanish and she didn't have
anybody to practice her in discipline but I was 16 when I started teaching sunday school at sheriff Israel when they move north and my second husband is was is from Bangladesh and so I lived 10 years ESL just getting along with with him he'd say do you understand and I'd say yes wrong word and taught him more english your second husband was from bangladesh well that's a little unusual that's a little egg nice Jewish girl chef I learned a lot from him and my first husband was more to Fort Worth so he's a Texan and he's a locksmith and so I am also was a
card-carrying locksmith and not doing was my second husband and now my third husband is someone i graduated from high school with but we never dated we were friends and we were bbyo together my father was advisor for Brandeis and Harry's father was advisor for kaplan so our parents knew each other but we never dated and he called me one Sunday afternoon wonder if I wanted to go to dinner and he's a CPA I think that's all very husband is another fight and she said you had a son I have a son I lost the Sun but my my other son has swagga so my grandchildren
were 20 and 25 Harry's grandchildren and like I said he's the same age as I am his granddaughter is 16 his grandson is for and the baby will be a year old next month that gay children though the two younger ones mother is from Taiwan so Joshua doesn't know that it's difficult to speak English and Mandarin Chinese and he does he goes back and forth and while socks women Chinese David talks through with English and he's just amazing he's a cutie I can't wait to get to atlanta they just moved to Atlanta so I've never seen the baby it's almost a year old so you
said that you grew up in Sharra's Israel and where did I go too so why did I go to de Paris yeah well I was interested in the fact first that you were one like the cert did you say I was a third bat mitzvah in the city of Dallas they were just starting with bat mitzvahs I gone to Hebrew school in some of the cities that we had lived and when I moved to Dallas the synagogue's did not have Hebrew schools at that time there sunday school but there was the United Hebrew schools of Dallas there was a campus in south dallas for those
that still live there and then at higher elementary school there was a north dallas campus and we went to Hebrew school four days a week after school and then Friday night we go to services saturday morning we go to services Sunday morning went to Sunday school really enjoyed it and then even though my brother was 18 much other than I am we decided we were to do a bar bar mitzvah together so we studied and did a berm it's for in course of sheraton south dallas in the same haftorah that I had when my son was born he was born right before Rosh Hashanah and
I said I know what his varmints is going to be because our haftorah was like Lahaul which is the third one after service thora so Robert haftorah was the same as mine and his daughter was bored so covered by teeth so she also had the same so we did a lil adorn the door from generation to generation which was really really nice Mark Allen was the principal of the Hebrew school at spiva Brenner's father and I think as they was Pincus picky Silverman wasn't my Hebrew school teacher Sidney stall the attorney it was my Sunday school teacher at sheriff this is real and then when
they moved or I was first teaching Sunday School and so I taught oh I guess a year olds or nine year olds who now have grandchildren of and I was confirmed from sure that I was Paul and I were married from sheriff because that's where I wit he grew up at the ferret Israel so after our free year's membership we transferred over to two ferrets I've been at the fairest at 61 you were merged in Jewish like I said my grandfather was a husband for a while Aaron cluster and my father conducted services at the state farm office which was a cross from where value
is now so I've been active in synagogues and religion all my life and I love it and it's a great comfort with things like my accident or the fact that I lost the sled at 16 my boys went to a keel Academy which was very nude which was very new and they did not have a high school I kept sayin get a high school built I'm not sending them off to yeshiva and they didn't know now we've got y'all been a couple of other schools around so I was going to send Robert to st. marks and he said he wasn't going to go because there were no girls there hey so they immediately put them in you know AP classes at like Islands how did you get into the
