Ruth & Richard Albert

Ruth Albert's mother's family came from Beaumont, Texas, and later moved to Dallas, where she met Ruth's father, George Roelmink. Ruth grew up first in South Dallas, then moved with her family to Holland Park during the early grades of elementary school. Richard Melvin Albert was born in San Antonio and spent his childhood living in both Dallas and San Antonio.

Richard attended the University of Texas for a year before entering the military. After completing his service, he returned to Texas and attended SMU. The Alberts made their life in Dallas, where they participated in the local Jewish community and shared memories of its people and institutions.

For more than 40 years, Richard worked at the Byer-Rolnick Hat Company, a long career that anchored his professional life in Dallas. In their joint interview, Ruth and Richard reflected on their family origins, their upbringing, and their experiences within the Dallas community.
