Bob Goldberg

Bob Goldberg was born in 1927 in Dallas, Texas. He attended grammar school in South Dallas, followed by Forest Avenue High School. Then, he went to University of Texas for a semester and a half before enlisting in the military at the age of 17. He was stationed in San Francisco as a radio operator, sending out messages into the Pacific Ocean. After his service, Bob came back to Dallas and married his wife, Lois, a few months later, in 1946. Bob studied business marketing at SMU and ultimately ended up working for a large metal recycling company for 32 years. Together Lois and Bob have one daughter and two sons, all of whom have been very active in the Dallas Jewish community. Their sons opened up a scrapyard under their father’s training. Bob has been an important member of the Dallas Jewish community, serving his time on the board of the Jewish Community Center and with other organizations.

Berta Goetz

Berta Goetz was born in 1927 in Tübingen, Germany. She moved with her family to Yugoslavia at age six in 1934, where they lived before making the long journey to America in 1939. Berta’s father started a scrap metal business once they arrived in Philadelphia. After attending high school in Philadelphia, Berta went to Moore College of Art and Design. She met her husband in New York while working as a designer for a textile studio, and they married in 1951. Berta & Arno z”l moved to Dallas the day after they married, as a result of Berta’s husband’s job in an international cotton firm. Together they spent a lot of time traveling and sharing in the joy of their four children. Berta is still an active member of the Dallas Jewish community.

Al Garment

Al Garment, the oldest of two boys, was born in 1928 in Brooklyn, New York. As a child, Al attended Brooklyn Tech High School, where he studied engineering. In June 1946, Al entered the military. He has been married for 65 years and together he and his wife have two daughters. Al began working in his father’s fabrics business but then switched over to electronics and mechanics. He came to Texas in 1960 and built fighter planes for many years in Grand Prairie for LTV and then worked for Boeing for around 12 years. Al and his wife have been involved for many years with Congregation Tiferet Israel, Jewish War Veterans, and the Texas Jewish Post.

Hy Cohen

Hy Cohen, one of 12 children, was born in 1926 in Brooklyn, New York. Hy’s father was 11 years old when he ran away from Russia and found himself traveling through Europe, eventually to end up in London. Hy, from a very young age, was a mechanically inclined individual and an avid lover of airplanes and flying, which later influenced his decision to join the Naval Air Force. He married his wife, Edna, in 1950 and they settled in Tulsa, Oklahoma, before moving to Texas for business. As the proud father of three children, Hy’s passion and love have been very touching to both family and friends.

Rosalie Budnoff

Rosalie BudnoffRosalie Budnoff was born in 1928 in Boston, Massachusetts. Her father was a printing salesman and her mother, born in Russia, came to America at age three around 1897. Rosalie attended Girls’ Latin School in Boston. She moved to Dallas in 1967 and met her late second husband, Irving z”l, at a Jewish-sponsored dance. Rosalie has been a very active member in Dallas’s Jewish community and has found that the Jewish community provides opportunities to meet new people. She belonged to the National Council of Jewish Women and Hadassah while simultaneously working and has been an active member of Congregation Tiferet Israel.
