Celia Lewin

Celia Lewin was interviewed in 1973.

She was born is Russia. She grew up very Orthodox .She came to a small community in Texas, called Will’s Point in 1908. Her parents hated it there and they closed down their store to move to Dallas. She got married and had multiple children, but could not go back to work during the Depression because jobs were scarce and they needed jobs for the single women. She finally got a temporary job at the Jewish Welfare Federation.

Sarah Levinson

Sarah’s father came to Dallas from Germany first to get away from the army, then he brought her mother over and bought a bar. They had two children, her and a boy but the boy died due to something falling on him. They were very poor and were bullied over it in school, although it did calm down after a while. She moved to Waco for a while, but moved back to Dallas when her mother died. She was very involved in the shul.
