Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Gail grew up in a Jewish neighborhood and attended a Jewish school. She came to US on a trip in December 1985, with her fiance and decided to settle in Dallas. She got married and started teaching in a Jewish school. She is actively involved in Jewish communities and believes in her allegiance towards Israel.

Joel Batalsky

Joel BatalskyJoel Batalsky
Born in 1940 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His father passed away when Joel was just five years old, and Joel grew up in an orphanage while having his mother by his side. A strong man, Joel received a wrestling scholarship to Temple University. He joined the military after studying business administration and accounting and graduating college in 1962. Joel and his wife have been heavily involved in the Jewish community in Dallas as active members of Temple Emanu-El, the Jewish Community Center, and various veterans organizations. Joel is a proud Jew and American, inspiring many with his desire to act with kindness and to repair the world around him.

Norma Apt

Norma Apt
Born in Greenville, Texas in 1929, Norma grew up in Fort Worth. Her father, Meyer Abramson, was a Lithuanian immigrant who opened his own store and later founded Southland Beauty Supply, exclusively supplying Helene Curtis products to Neiman Marcus and other major retailers. Norma became a speech pathologist, having graduated from Emerson College in 1953 and also having studied at Harvard. Norma spent more than 20 years as a docent with the Dallas Holocaust Museum, and became interested in studying World War II due to her brother’s service in the military.

Carol Alkek

Carol Alkek
Born in 1941 in Dallas, Texas, to her parents who came to the United States in 1938. Carol graduated from the University of Texas at Austin in 1963. She taught for many years and has worked in corporate training for 30 years. She has been a big part of Dallas’s Jewish Community through her participation in organizations such as Temple Emanu-El, the National Council of Jewish Women, and the American Jewish Committee, among others.

Suzie Ablon

Ablon, Suzie Suzie Ablon
Suzie was born in 1935 in Dallas, Texas. A natural saleswoman, she was a pivotal employee in the catering business for 35 years. She has a big passion for rhythm and dancing, has been an important contributor to the Dallas Jewish community, and led the Federation drive in 1962.
