Bob Goldberg

Bob Goldberg was born in 1927 in Dallas, Texas. He attended grammar school in South Dallas, followed by Forest Avenue High School. Then, he went to University of Texas for a semester and a half before enlisting in the military at the age of 17. He was stationed in San Francisco as a radio operator, sending out messages into the Pacific Ocean. After his service, Bob came back to Dallas and married his wife, Lois, a few months later, in 1946. Bob studied business marketing at SMU and ultimately ended up working for a large metal recycling company for 32 years. Together Lois and Bob have one daughter and two sons, all of whom have been very active in the Dallas Jewish community. Their sons opened up a scrapyard under their father’s training. Bob has been an important member of the Dallas Jewish community, serving his time on the board of the Jewish Community Center and with other organizations.

Miriam Creemer

Miriam Creemer was born in Calgary in 1936 to Polish immigrant parents. Miriam grew up in a very close-knit family and later attended the University of Alberta, where she graduated with a degree in teaching. She became a teacher in one of the largest elementary schools in Calgary and later was head of the English Department at the Jewish day school that she had attended when she was a young child. Miriam met her husband, Al, in Vancouver, British Columbia, and they moved to the United States in the late 1970s. When she first arrived, she worked at an old age home and really grew to love working with seniors. After moving to Dallas, she eventually became the Director of the JCC Senior Adult Program, where she worked for 20 years. Miriam instituted a senior drama group, choir, reading club, and many other programs that she led. As a speaker of Yiddish, she shares her passion for the language and translates and teaches it as well.

Judy Cohn

Judy Cohn was born in 1935 in Brooklyn, New York. As a child, she studied piano and dance for many years at Carnegie Hall, at Ballet Arts, and also at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York. She attended Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn and then went to NYU for a year before she transferred to Brooklyn College, where she studied Secretarial Studies. Judy married her husband, Norman, in 1956, and they settled in North Dallas. At the Jewish Community Center, Judy worked in the kindergarten, became the music specialist for the preschool, and also served as Cultural Programs Director. Judy has also served as the Executive Director of the Richardson Symphony and went back to school to receive a degree in Arts Administration. Judy has been a giving member and leader of Dallas’s Jewish community.

Stephanie Berman

Stephanie BermanStephanie Berman was born in 1966 in Dallas, Texas. She attended Akiba Academy of Dallas through Kindergarten and later attended J. J. Pearce High School. Stephanie, a successful jewelry designer, opened a jewelry store inside the Shops at Willow Bend, but later opened her own studio. Stephanie’s husband, Peter, is an electrical contractor for commercial buildings. As a proud Jew, Stephanie urges people to stand by their religion and traditions.

Fonda Schepps Arbetter

Fonda Schepps Arbetter was born in 1956 in Dallas, Texas. Her great-grandparents, Nathan and Freida Schepps, founded Schepps Dairy in Russia before coming to Texas and continuing the family business. Fonda attended preschool at Congregation Shearith Israel and years later met her husband at one of the singles’ events she had put together at the Jewish Community Center. Fonda has been a very active member in the Jewish community, having been inspired by her father’s involvement and hard work. She has been on the Board of Directors for Congregation Shearith Israel and has displayed leadership in many other Jewish organizations.
